Kaigomai – Sotiria Leonardou

Sotiria Leonardou sings Kaigomai, a Greek song which means “I am burning”. Kaigomai is one of the most known rebetika songs, heard for the first time in the movie Rebetiko, by Kostas Ferris in 1983.

The movie Rebetiko refers to a female singer from Smyrna in Asia Minor, born in 1917, only five years before the tragic events in Asia Minor and the seaside villages in 1922. The movie is actually a historic approach to the consequences of the defeat of the Greeks and the loss of the Asia Minor, as well as the life of singers and composers of rebetika songs, who were considered marginal by default.

The movie received the Silver Bear in the Berlin Film Festival and was very successful in Europe and international film festivals. The soundtrack of the movie is still considered one of the best Greek soundtracks ever, introducing some gripping songs and melodies.

Kaigomai is probably the most known song sung by Sotiria Leonardou, an exceptionally good singer of rebetika songs.
