Michalis Hatzigiannis is one of the most successful young Greek singers.

Michalis Hatiziannis has received more than 30 awards just in Greece and he was included in the list of Forbes magazine, as the 22nd most influential celebrity in Greece and the 5th most popular singer for 2010.

Short Bio

Michalis Hatzigiannis was born on November 5th 1979 in Nicosia Cyprus. He gratuated from the Cyprus Music Academy studying guitar, piano and music theory.

At the age of 18, he took part in a Cypriot song contest and won the first prize.

Later on in 1995 he participated in the national final for the Eurovision Song contest 1995 but was not selected to represent Cyprus.

He released his first album in Cyprus and then participated in a music production called Pygmalion. At that year, he gave his first concerts in major cities in Cyprus.

Michalis Hatzigiannis’ career in Greek Music

In 1998 he was selected to represent Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Genessis”, which was a composition of his own, and Hatzigiannis took the 11th position.

This contest made him known to the general public and more known to Greece as well. Hatzigiannis came to Greece and collaborated with the Greek composer Giorgos Hatzinassios, releasing the CD single “Angigma Psychis” (Touch of soul).

This album contained some of the very first songs by Michalis that made a huge impact to the Greek audience.  The album sold largely and became platinum.

In March 2000 Hatzigiannis released a new album called Paraxeni Giorti (Strange Feast), with the participation of well known Greek composers and lyric writers.

Some of the songs included in this album, such as Mono sta Oneira and the title track stayed at the Greek charts and radio airplays for several months to come.

The album became double plaitinum, and Michalis was already considered one of the most popular and well promising Greek singers. He started performing in Athens; he first appeared live with Haris Alexiou and received great reviews. That summer he started touring Greece, with huge success and sold out concerts everywhere he went.

In 2002 he released his third album called Kryfo Fili (Secret kiss) which became 3 times platinum.  This album contained numerous big hits such as “Eisai Edo” (You are here), “Horis Anapnoi” (Breathless), “To S’ Agapo” ( I love you), ” Ekdromi” ( excursion), and “Kapnos” (Smoke). Although no one had any doubts by that time, this album established Hatzigiannis as one of the most popular singers but also song writers.

Since then Hatzigiannis has released 7 albums and has participated in the albums of other composers as well. In 2006 he organized his first concerts abroad and visited the US and Australia.

In 2009 Hatzigiannis released his first album in English, titled “More than Beautiful“. It was released in Germany and the UK.

Later on he recorded the English versions of several songs such as Everyone Dance (Cheria Psila in Greek) and he collaborated with known foreign artists and bands such as the Reammon.

According to the official statistics, Hatzigiannis has been certified  for the sales of 645,000 albums and 150,000 CD singles.

In general Michalis Hatzigiannis has been very private about his personal life; however, it is known that he was in a relationship with Despoina Olympiou for some years but were separated 3 years ago.

Now he is in a relationship with the actress Zeta Makrypoulia.
