Yes I Do – Monika

Monika sings “Yes I do“, a new song recently released by this new “wonder” of the Greek music who reminds us that blending tradition and modern sounds can make Greek music even more interesting and variable.

Even from the introduction of “Yes I Do” we were surprised; the use of bouzouki and baglama, two of the basic instruments of folk Greek music is not common in this type of music – and definitely not common for a young creator and artist like Monika.

I have to say that the first time I heard this song, I did not know who was singing and I thought it was a song by Manos Hadjidakis. The melody of “Yes I Do” brings Hadjidakis’ melodies in mind. There is the same sensitivity, the same nostalgic feeling, the same simplicity but deep emotions.

Monika creates a beautiful song, a love song. She writes lyrics and music, she sings and although she is still a student, she shows us that she can be one of the greatest composers and artists, making Greek music known in Europe and the US, since she creates songs that have – so far – exclusively English Lyrics.  Close your eyes and listen to this song; it comes from another era.

The song “Yes I do” is included in Monika’s latest album called “Exit“.
