Nostalgia – Yanni

Yanni is one of the most known Greek composers abroad, beloved in the other side of the Atlantic, where he spent the biggest part of his creative time, composing some of the most popular instrumental songs in Word Music. Yanni is, along with Vangelis, the composer that made Greek music known to a larger public in the US, reminding to everyone that Greek Music can be something different than bouzouki or traditional instruments. In any case, Yanni managed to combine elements of the Greek Music, like the sound of the sea and wind, and a nostalgic nuance that we can find in the music of composers such as Manos Hadjidakis and Stamatis Spanoudakis.

Nostalgia is the song we hear in this video; it is taken from the amazing live concert that Yanni gave under the Acropolis. Nostalgia is composed as a reminiscent of feelings away from the homeland; it’s a very tender instrumental song, very emotional and indeed very nostalgic but very powerful at the same time – it’s the power of the sensitive and overwhelming melody.

It is not accidental that Nostalgia is one of the most popular songs ever written and the album Yanni Live at the Acropolis was one of the most successful and popular albums both in Greece and abroad –  It is estimated that it’s Yanni’s best seller album of all times.
